The Importance of Scent Throw: How to Achieve a Strong and Lasting Fragrance in Your Home

Have you ever bought a beautifully scented soy candle, only to find that its fragrance barely fills the room when you light it? Understanding scent throw can help you maximize the enjoyment of your candles and create the perfect ambiance in your home.

Here's what you need to know:

1. Choose High Quality Candles: When shopping for candles, opt for those made with high-quality fragrance oils & that are “clean burning” or “eco friendly”. These candles are formulated to release their scent efficiently when burned, ensuring a pleasant aroma fills your space without being toxic.

2. Consider Candle Size and Placement: The size of your candle and the room where you plan to burn it can impact its scent throw. Larger candles or multiple smaller candles may be needed for larger spaces. Additionally, consider placing your candle in a central location to allow the fragrance to disperse more evenly.

3. Trim the Wick: Before lighting your soy candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. This helps prevent the flame from burning too hot and ensures a steady, even burn, allowing the fragrance to fill the room more effectively. Remember to do this while the candle is cool and dry.

4. Give it Time: Soy and Coconut wax candles often need some time to reach their full scent potential. Allow your candle to burn for at least a few hours during each use to ensure the fragrance has time to spread throughout the room. This is KEY!!

5. Experiment with Burn Time: The longer you burn your candle, the more fragrance it will release. Experiment with different burn times to find the right balance for your space and scent preferences. However, try not to burn longer than 3 hours at a time as we do not want the vessel nor the wax to become overheated.

6. Be Mindful of Drafts: Drafts from open windows or doors can affect the way your candle burns and diminish its scent throw. Try to place your candle away from drafts to maximize its fragrance.

7. Rotate Your Candles: If you have multiple candles, rotate them regularly to prevent olfactory fatigue. This allows you to enjoy each scent to its fullest potential.

Understanding scent throw and implementing these tips can help you get the most out of your soy candles, transforming your home into a cozy and inviting sanctuary filled with delightful aromas.

Overtime, you will most likely notice— there is truth in the saying, “You get what you pay for.” Often times, luxury candles will provide a much richer and deeper candle fragrance that not only fills the room while lit; but also provides a lingering scent hours and days afterward. The more budget friendly options are oftentimes made my the manufacturer with less expensive raw material, lower quality fragrance and essential oils (if any!) and with less research and burn test, experimenting and optimizing in mind.
